026. The summer I turned 16, all I wanted in the world was for my parents to let me go to Hawaii so I could audition for American Idol.

We were living in Japan at the time, and it was a ridiculous wish, so I was surprised when my parents actually thought about it, however briefly. I’m glad now that they said no. I’m not nearly talented or charismatic enough to have made it past the preliminary auditions, and my 16 year-old self wouldn’t have been able to handle the rejection.

025. Sometimes I hear people talking and I know that they’re speaking English, but I can’t understand a word of it.

And it’s not because of accents or anything. I just hear voices and noise and my brain somehow doesn’t always process the sound into words I understand.

024. I have never shaved my legs.

I’ve never needed to.

020. I love movies, but I’m not a big fan of movie theaters.

I am, however, quite enamored of theaters. The ones where I can see plays and musicals and such.

016. When I was younger, I desperately wanted red hair.

Like, Weasley red.

I realize now how awful that would have looked.

015. When I clean I have a tendency to put on things that I come across—necklaces, sweaters, headbands, hats.

So by the time I’m done, I end up looking like a little kid playing dress up.

014. There is a giant stuffed turtle sitting on my couch. I have no explanations.

Not of the taxidermic variety, of course. Just a regular stuffed toy. A regular giant stuffed toy.

013. Since I’ve moved back to the States, I’m terrified of driving.

I do it if I need to, but I try to avoid it if I can.
